Rice Roll and Porridge Restaurant

After dinner one evening, Victor suggested trying the Durian Chee Cheong Fun here. Yes, you heard right - Durian Chee Cheong Fun... I was pretty sceptical but figured it's worth a try.

As the name of the place implies, this coffeeshop along Killiney Road specialises in Chee Cheong Fun (Rice Roll) and Porridge. There was a copy of a Straits Times article about their Durian Chee Cheong Fun up on the wall so it can't be that bad, right? ;)

Anyway, here it is - Durian Chee Cheong Fun $4.20 per plate :

It's served cold, mashed up durian wrapped in one layer of chee cheong fun. The filling is pure durian, not mixed with anything at all - so you get the full flavour of durian. I thought the sprinkling of ground nuts was a nice touch...

So apparently I'm the only one who liked this :P Durian is one of those fruits that I like the actual stuff and not by products so this gets my vote as it uses nothing but durian in the filling... and I don't have to deal with the the durian husk and seeds, and the haggling with the durian seller :O

We also tried the Durian Tang Yuan in Peanut Soup $4.00 :

This is what it looks like inside -

It's this weird durian-flavoured paste. We also ordered the mango-flavoured tang yuan - was exactly the same in colour and was also artificially flavoured... and not cheap too! Yucky and expensive too, don't order this if u come here.

But do try the Durian Chee Cheong Fun :)
